Discover more about Lapland’s gold at Tankavaara

At Tankavaara there are two places where you can find out about the world of Lapland’s gold: Gold Museum and Tankavaara Gold Village. Furthermore, Kasper von Wuthenau, who is a familiar face to many visitors of the area, guides groups in the museum, on Tankavaara’s gold claims, and also on nature excursions.

Gold Museum and Tankavaara Gold Village – here everything revolves around gold

In Tankavaara’s Gold Village you can sleep, eat and search for gold. Cafe Restaurant Wanha Waskoolimies offers tasty food with flavours from Lapland. In the same complex, there is a small gift shop, indoor panning pool and Wild West Saloon. Comfortable accommodation is provided in their Korundi apartments, Kultaränni hotel rooms or in their more rustic gold digger cabins. You can also book a variety of guided tours in the surrounding nature or rent a spot to dig on an existing gold claim.

Tankavaara Gold Village hosts the yearly Finnish Open Gold Panning Championships. Even beginners can take part in the competition and the audience participate for free. It’s worth travelling from afar for the competition. At that time there is a real sense of market hustle and bustle, with live bands and things to do for the whole family!

Also located in Tankavaara, the world’s only International Gold Museum presents gold rushes and the history of gold prospecting from more than 20 countries. The museum also features a souvenir shop where you can, of course, purchase genuine Lapland gold to take home with you. Visitors can try gold panning year-round at the museum’s indoor gold-panning basin. The Gold Prospector’s Starter Package includes admission to the Gold Museum, a guided tour, and a gold-panning experience. Any gold and gemstones you find are yours to keep!

Kasper von Wuthenau is a German geologist whose shop can be found at Nugget Square in the Gold Village of Tankavaara. There you will discover a wide selection of treasures from Lapland, as well as beautiful jewellery from the Kelokoru collection. Kasper’s extensive knowledge is well worth taking advantage of, whether you are looking for guidance on gold claims, nature excursions, or a visit to the Gold Museum. He offers guided tours fluently in German, French, English, and Finnish.

Only a few steps away from each other, both The Gold Village and The Gold Prospector Museum can be found along the side of the Route 4/E75 road, easy to reach by car and by bus.
