In the middle of the wild Lapland you can find the world’s only international Gold Museum
The museum’s immersive exhibitions introduce you to the 150-years of golden history in Lapland, and take you on a journey around the world’s gold fields. See the tools, dwellings and living conditions of gold miners up close. Learn where gold comes from, and what minerals live as gold’s friends underground.
The amazing life stories of the goldfield heroes will open a whole new view into Lapland. The unique international section has exhibitions from over 20 countries, located under the world’s largest gold pan. Roman soldiers, Japanese princesses and Klondike dog sleds tell the story of gold rushes, gold mining and the most incredible ways to use gold. You can spend a whole day in the Gold Museum, which surprises with its size!
You can also try gold panning on guided tours throughout the year. The experience is suitable for families, groups and all adventurous travelers. Tours include a museum ticket and a guided tour of Lapland’s gold history.
The Gold Museum is open all year round, and its surroundings in Tankavaara provide a perfect starting point for excursions in the Urho Kekkonen National Park and the geological trail (length 7 km). On the trail you can explore, among other things, traces of the Ice Age.
Welcome to find your own golden Lapland!
