Museum-Gallery Andreas Alariesto

The permanent exhibition of Andreas Alariesto is on display in the Alariesto Museum-Gallery. He recorded the vanishing life of Lapland and Sompio, historical events and individual moments of life in his paintings, stories and songs. The descriptions are tinged with gentle humour and an attitude to life that respects old traditions.

Alariesto’s life’s work can be seen at the Andreas Alariesto Museum-Gallery in the very centre of Sodankylä. The collection includes 100 paintings, a miniature sculpture Lapland Village and artefacts related to the artist’s life. The main exhibition changes every year.

Works by a visual artist Reidar Särestöniemi (1925–1981) are now on permanent display in one room of the Alariesto Museum Gallery. The exhibition is entitled Taivaanjaara. The exhibition will change in May 2026.

There is also a museum shop and café in the museum.
