Reindeer can be seen at any time and in any place, roaming freely as part of Lapland’s everyday life and landscape.
Originally, Sompio was a village where local inhabitants settled during the snowy midwinter to practice reindeer herding. For the rest of the year, they lived nomadic life in the wilderness, hunting and fishing.
